UA Presents Education
UA Presents Education is part of a comprehensive college-wide outreach effort called ‘CFA in Schools’. Our goal is to provide all children in our community equal access to the highest quality arts education and on campus experiences. UA Presents helps accomplish this by providing a bevy of in-school and on-campus activities that engage K-12, students, University students and the broader community in the Arts:
Matinees - UA Presents collaborates with Act One to bring students from Title I schools in Pima County to matinee performances from some of the most compelling artists on our series. This year Act One is providing free busses and $1 tickets for nearly 3,000 students.
Arts Express –UA Presents partners with Tucson-based not-for-profit Arts Express who create interactive, day-long experiences for kids inspired by UA Presents artists. Participating students learn about and engage in the art form they will see on stage through a workshop led by a local teaching artist, followed by a Q&A with a member from the visiting company.
In-school Concerts and Workshops - UA Presents artists will visit more than a dozen K-12 schools that host one of CFA’s daily in-school arts education programs: Lead Guitar (classical guitar), Up Beat (hand drumming), Step Up (dance), or Music First (k-2 music fundamentals). Through these series of performances and workshops several thousand students will have access to world-class performing arts experiences in their own school.
Masterclasses – UA Presents also provides on-campus master classes and workshops for K-12 and University performing arts students. These are once in a lifetime opportunities for talented students to perform for and learn from some of the most sought after teachers and artists in their field. We appreciate these performers for their desire to interface with our students in K-12 and on the UA Campus; the opportunity for outreach becomes one of our motivations in bringing these guest artists to Tucson.
Majors and Master Artists - UA Presents works with UA College of Fine Arts faculty to ensure that students who are majoring in a discipline get to attend the performances of artists in their discipline when they perform as part of the UA Presents season.
Outreach to the Campus Community and Beyond - UA Presents collaborates with non-performing arts disciplines, college groups and a host of community organizations to ensure access to the arts for the broader community including participating in Act One’s Culture Pass program which provides library cardholders the opportunity to “check out” free passes to arts and culture attractions and performances in Tucson.
